Productboard

Productboard is the product management system that helps organizations get the right products to market, faster. Designed on the Product Excellence Methodology, Productboard aligns everyone on the right features to build next. Over 3,000 modern product-led companies, like Microsoft, Zendesk, and UiPath use Productboard to understand what users need, prioritize what to build next, and rally everyone around the roadmap.

Authenticating

Productboard uses HTTP Basic Auth, a developer-friendly delegated access protocol. Quolum has already connected the necessary wires with Productboard. Using a sequence of click-throughs, your organization's administrator allows Quolum to make API calls to Productboard without getting access to passwords.

Step 1: Initiate a connection to Productboard

Click the Connect button from the Connections card. If you are not an admin, you can invite your organization's Productboard admin to make a connection to your Productboard organization account. When you click on the Connect button, the web browser will open a pop-up asking API Key as shown in Step 2.

You may have corporate SSO such as Azure AD, GSuite, or Okta along with multi-factor authentication. Once you have successfully logged-in you can find the API Key as mentioned below in Step 3.

Step 3: Finding the API Key in Productboard

Step 3.1: Click your account profile on the bottom left corner of the page as shown below. It will show a drop-down menu. Click on the integrations section on that.

Step 3.2: Go on "Public API" section and select the Access token from there as shown below. Generate an access token and copy it.

Note: The Access token is not available for "Essentials" plan of Productboard. You can take any plan other than that to get the to Access token.

Step 3.3: Come back to the Quolum page and paste the API key copied. It will direct you the login page of Productboard after that.

Step 4: Provide consent to Quolum

The next screen after login into Productboard is the consent screen. On this screen, Productboard confirms whether you authorize Quolum to access your organization's data.

Step 5: Back to Quolum

Once you have granted access to Quolum on Productboard website, Productboard is going to send you back to Quolum's page in Step 1, where you started. The Connect button on the Connections card would now say Reconnect. Reconnect is used to reauthenticate under circumstances where the access has expired.

Under the hood

Using the OAuth protocol, Quolum now has delegated access to your Productboard Workspace. The Quolum server, running on Amazon AWS VPC, will be able to make API calls and retrieve feature-level utilization. Later, this data is crunched and available for visualization on the Quolum dashboard.
